The Drosera of Africa
The Drosera of Africa
Introduction
The genus Drosera in Africa contains 42 described species, with most of these endemic to South Africa's Cape Floral Region. Additionally, upwards of 100 undescribed species have been identified from across the continent. Within Africa, Drosera are widespread and have been recorded from all but a few of the driest countries. Their wide distribution can be attributed to a diversity of life histories and habitats, from annual species growing in seasonally dry areas, to perennially growing species growing in permanently wet areas, and to species which experience seasonal dormancy. With such diversity of habits and habitats come an incredible diversity of form, and this site represents years of effort to document this diversity.Â
